Dunhill Royal Yacht – Product Review

Dunhill Royal Yacht is a great tasting and strong pipe tobacco. The cut is a nice ribbon cut and the presentation is excellent, as I have always found with Dunhill tobacco. The tin note is an intriguing combination of sweet fig, raisin, a hint of plum and fresh hay; what a combination!
However, the first taste I always seem to encounter with Dunhill Royal Yacht is a beautiful, subtle cocoa. Then as I smoke this blend the cocoa transforms into a hint of plum as suggested by the tin note. This is an easy to light tobacco and stayed lit throughout the smoke leaving little moisture and a fine white ash.
This is truly a tasty tobacco and the flavours shift from cocoa to plum. The cocoa reminds me of a good burley such as Solani Burley Flake and the Virginias in this blend add a subtle sweetness. I am sensitive to Burley tobacco and I do feel Royal Yacht hit the back of my throat fairly early on in the smoke which is why I suspect that there is some Burley in this blend.
Dunhill Royal Yacht certainly has a good dose of nicotine. This is stronger than I usually smoke and I really felt the nicotine hit when I smoked this tobacco on an empty stomach. In fact I couldn’t finish the bowl until I had eaten! Obviously nicotine strength is a personal factor and I do prefer lighter blends. However, this does not detract from the excellent quality of the tobacco itself.
Dunhill Royal Yacht is a luxurious tobacco with a beautiful topping of plum with hints of dark cocoa. After the topping fades you are then left with a beautifully balanced smoke that offers a healthy dose of nicotine.
