The pilgrim piper oft alone
Bailing out of the world, renews
His solace, silent as a stone
Lets all things pass, the current news
Stuffs rich tobacco in the briar
Takes time by turns to slowly burn
Sees purpose through the smoke and fire
And sets his eye some prize to earn
And should you ask him why he sips
A pipe that savours of rare spice
He’ll say as if from ancient lips
There’s more to life than dying twice
And should you ask a secret there
He’ll wink you with a wetted eye
Then sigh that secret he must share
Whilst gazing up toward the sky
