J. F. Germaine’s Royal Jersey Cavendish & Virginia Tobacco – Product Review

Although this is commonly labelled as being unflavoured, the nose from the pouch disputes that. A quick sniff brings Christmas pudding to mind: rich, fruity, and sweet. Something else which brings contention is the usually proffered description for the cut: shag? The blend would marry up better with the label of Ribbon. Slightly coarse, medium brown and golden brown, perfectly moist for immediate smoking, ribbons.
Royal Jersey Cavendish and Virginia takes to an independent burn with only a short touch of the flame, it doesn’t need a jet lighter. A minus point, should you puff with too much alacrity, is it can be a tad quick; medium temperature, bite free smoke, but a bit quick on the burn. That’s really the only negative, the rest is ‘all good’!
The smoke, like the unlit aroma, brings the flavour of Christmas pudding to mind: rich, dark-fruity, and sweet, with a minor touch of alcohol at the beginning of a bowl. The tobacco taste gels well with this character: tangy Virginias lead, supported by a honey-sweet Cavendish note, and a semblance of Orientals; these require a more discerning palate to be able to sequester them, otherwise they might be missed.
The nicotine doesn’t pack too much of a punch, a little below medium. And the room-note’s pleasant: slightly fruity, and medium weight.
Although Royal Jersey Cavendish & Virginia isn’t a stolid aromatic it still has just enough of an indulgent attribute to make it suit the position of Dessert Smoke.
