The Bankers Mixture from James Fox is an English blend with added cigar leaf. On first opening the tin you are greeted with the smoky latakia as well hints of fig, raisin and even prunes! There is also an undertone of stewed fruit. I could not get the sense of the cigar leaf and I think that this is because of the latakia influence.
My tin was fairly moist and I would suggest a little drying time, though Fox – The Bankers Mixture is smokeable straight from the tin. I did have to relight a few times but I do put this down to the moisture content. The nutty burley was evident and a touch of sweetness from the virginias but the main taste comes from the latakia. The cigar leaf taste is present but more as a condiment. I think without the latakia you would pick up the cigar taste easier. However, if you want a full cigar flavour then smoke a cigar, for this is a hint of flavour and you may be disappointed if you want a stronger cigar taste.
The room note is smoky, but I mean this as a campfire, woody smokiness; this is obviously due to the latakia. Once the fire was underway, this pipe tobacco did burn down to a fine white ash, yet all the way down all I could really taste is the latakia. If you want a pipe tobacco with added cigar leaf then this mixture has it, but the cigar leaf is way in the background and I did have to hunt for it amongst the smoky latakia flavour.
I find that Fox – The Bankers Mixture is a fairly light English blend. If you want to have something like My Mixture 965 but a lot lighter in latakia flavour as well as nicotine then this may make for a nice everyday smoke.
