- CHANCELLOR BUDGET INCREASE
The Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced that the usual November Budget has been brought forward to Wednesday 27th October. As ever the chancellor will increase the tobacco duty, the new rates will apply to all products despatched to the trade after 6pm that evening. As a retailer we have the ability to maintain the current price for a further few days. We will expect to start increasing the price of our tobacco products the week commencing the 1st November.
The last 12 months have seen a perfect storm of additional costs of doing business during Covid-19 driving up most manufacturers cost prices, shipping rates are at all time high including incredible increases in container costs of up to +400% higher, and the trade is now paying the additional Brexit tariffs on goods that are shipped from Europe Hub Warehouses due to the new Country of Origin reporting requirements.
Any orders placed before the 1st November will be charged at the current price.
- PRODUCT AVAILABILITY
We are experiencing difficulty in some brand availability. Some of these are short term however it echoes onto the rest of the supply chain. For example we are struggling to get hold of the Mac Baren tobacco, Neos Country Cigars, Clan, Erinmore Flake, King Edward Imperials and so on…
- CIGAR OF THE YEAR ‘MONTECRISTO EDMUNDOS’
Cigar Journal Magazine, one of the most internationally respected cigar publications, has held its annual awards show presenting trophies for Best Brand, Best Cigar, Best Value, Best Accessory and Best Lounge.
On Thursday 16th September they announced that the Montecristo Edmundo had won their Cuban Cigar of the Year trophy, with Partagas Serie winning Best Cuban Brand and San Cristóbal de la Habana coming out on top in the Best Value section.
Since 2016, the awards have been voted for by the public with registered users of the Cigar Journal website (www.cigarjournal.com) being invited to cast their votes in the various categories.
